What You Need to Know Before You Travel to Orleans in 2026
Visitors planning a trip to Orleans, Massachusetts need three things sorted before they hit the sand: a beach parking pass, a clear understanding of dog rules at each beach, and if they plan to harvest shellfish, a valid recreational permit. Getting any of these wrong means fines, being turned away at the gate, or wasting a low-tide window on a closed area.
This guide covers every permit, pass, and fee required for a visit to Orleans, including current purchase options, enforcement schedules, active shellfish closures, and the dog rules that change by beach and season. All information is verified against official Town of Orleans sources as of April 2026. Always confirm the latest details at town.orleans.ma.us before traveling, as regulations can change with little notice.
Current Status and Official Sources (April 2026)
Before reading the fee and rule details below, note where things stand right now:
- Beach parking stickers: The 2025 season stickers are valid through June 30, 2026. The Sticker Office at 40 Giddiah Hill Road is currently closed for the off-season. When stickers go back on sale for the summer 2026 enforcement season (typically around Memorial Day weekend), the online sales portal at orleansstickers.townhall247.com is the fastest way to buy. Fee changes for the 2026 enforcement season have not yet been formally announced; check the Sticker Office page for updates.
- Family Shellfish Permits: 2026-2027 Family Shellfish Permits went on sale March 23, 2026, both online and in person at the Department of Public Works (DPW), 40 Giddiah Hill Road. Fees are unchanged from 2025.
- Active shellfish closure: As of March 11, 2026, the Namequoit River area (SC63) in Pleasant Bay, including Meetinghouse Pond, Lonnie's Pond, and Arey's Pond is closed to shellfishing due to a Red Tide (PSP) notice. The remainder of Pleasant Bay remains open. Always check the current open/closed area status at the Town of Orleans Shellfish page before going out.
Orleans Beach Parking Stickers and Daily Passes
Beach parking at Nauset Beach and Skaket Beach requires either a valid sticker or a daily hangtag purchased at the gatehouse on enforcement days. The two beaches share the same pass system; one valid pass works at either location on the same day.
2025-2026 Enforcement Schedule (currently in effect):
- Weekend enforcement: Saturdays and Sundays, May 24 through June 13
- Daily enforcement: June 14 through September 1 (Labor Day)
- Enforcement hours run 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM; parking is free after 4:30 PM
- Pedestrians and cyclists pay nothing; leave bikes at the entry racks
Note: The 2026 enforcement start date and any revised fee schedule will be published by the Town of Orleans Natural Resources Department in spring 2026. Check the Sticker Office page for the official announcement.
Pass Types, Costs, and Eligibility
- Resident / Real Estate Taxpayer Sticker: The Resident / Real Estate Taxpayer Sticker costs $25 and is available to Orleans residents and real estate taxpayers. It can be purchased at the Sticker Office or through the online portal. This sticker is valid through June 30, 2026.
- Non-Resident Season Sticker: The Non-Resident Season Sticker costs $420 and can be purchased by any non-resident. It is available at the Sticker Office or through the online portal. This sticker is also valid through June 30, 2026.
- Weekly Sticker: The Weekly Sticker costs $165 and is available to any visitor. It can be purchased online, at the Sticker Office, or at the Nauset Administration Building, where sales are available daily from June 14, 9 AM to 1 PM. This sticker is valid for 7 consecutive days at either beach.
- Daily Hangtag: The Daily Hangtag costs $32.50 and is available to any visitor. It can be purchased at the gatehouse at Nauset Beach or Skaket Beach on enforcement days. The daily hangtag is valid for the day of purchase only.
Important notes: Vehicle registration is required to purchase a resident sticker. All stickers and hangtags are vehicle-specific, non-refundable, and non-transferable. Buying a weekly or season sticker does not guarantee entry if the parking lot is full.Â
Both beaches often reach capacity on peak summer days, so the sticker works as a parking credential, not a reserved space. Arrive before 9 AM on sunny weekends to reduce the risk of being turned away.
Processing Times for Online and Mail Orders
Online and mail-in sticker orders are processed in the order received. Allow up to 5 business days for processing. Mailed stickers face additional delays allowing up to 21 days from order date to delivery. When the sticker office reopens, the town recommends choosing in-person pickup at the DPW (40 Giddiah Hill Road, Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM) to avoid waiting. Print the order confirmation email as a temporary parking pass for up to seven days while your sticker is in transit.
Resident-Only Town Landings (June 15 to September 15)
These town landings are restricted to Orleans resident sticker holders during summer enforcement:
Cove Road Landing, Doane Road Landing and 26 Doane Road, 141 Portanimicut Road, Mill Pond Landing, Priscilla Landing, River Road Landing, Snow Shore Landing, Tonset Landing, and 17 Wildflower Lane.
Signage at each location identifies restricted areas, and parking enforcement officers patrol daily.
Orleans Shellfishing Permits
Anyone harvesting shellfish in Orleans waters needs a valid family recreational permit. This covers clamming, quahogging, oyster harvesting, and mussel picking on town tidal flats. The permit is separate from beach parking and sold through the same online portal.
